OUR MISSIONThe Michigan Association for Adult and Continuing Education (MAACE) cultivates lifelong learning, provides high quality professional development and support research. Our members serve adults through diverse sectors which include: public and private schools, colleges, universities and agencies, community colleges, intermediate school districts, corrections, business and industry, labor organizations, human resource organizations and consultants. MAACE is an affiliate of The American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (www.aaace.org) , the nation's premiere adult education organization dedicated to being the leading source in the field of adult learning. Individual members and affiliate organizations encompass each state and more than 40 countries. AAACE publishes two of the nation's leading periodicals in adult education and learning: Adult Learning and the Adult Education Quarterly. NEWS!Check back often to get updated information on the activities of MAACE . MAACE to Host "Meeting of the Boards" MAACE is hosting a meeting on October 10, 2008 for the purpose of bringing together all those who serve on adult education boards throughout the state of Michigan. Julie Brockman, President of MAACE, states, "This will be a wonderful opportunity for all of the association board members to meet face-to-face to discuss what we do as individual boards and the possibilities for future partnerships--all in the service of adult educators throughout Michigan." Welcome New MAACE Board Members Patty Higgins, appointed to MAACE Board of Directors! Patty currently works for the State of Michigan in the Office of Adult Education in Literacy and ABE. Additionally, she serves as the conference chair for the MAETC annual conference and reviews/manages grants. Patty has experience in the K-12 public school system as well as public administration. She received a dual degree B.A. in Political Science and Russian language from the University of New Hampshire and an M.A. in Public Administration from Bridgewater College in Massachusetts. Welcome Patty! Jean Morciglio, appointed to MAACE Board of Directors! Jean is the Executive Director of Extension and Community Education for Lansing Community College where she provides leadership and strategic direction for enrollment growth in off-campus programs. In this capacity, she oversees community education programs serving 8,500+ students in 20 facilities in a 6 county region. Jean received her BA in Spanish, with cognates in Chinese and Linguistics, from Michigan State University, an M.S. in Occupational Ed. Administration from Ferris State University and is a 2008 doctoral candidate in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University. Welcome Jean! Karen Peacock, appointed to MAACE Board of Directors! Karen Peacock, Regional Manager, Eastern Michigan University/Jackson, has recently been appointed to the MAACE Board of Directors! Karen brings many talents to the activities of the Board which will benefit our members. Karen has worked for Eastern Michigan University for the past 7 years in different capacities. From 2006 to the present, Karen has been the Regional Manager of Eastern Michigan University’s Jackson location. As a Regional Manager, Karen facilitates graduate and undergraduate programs along with providing transfer support to Jackson Community College Students. Through her leadership in Jackson, she is able to connect with the community and help provide support services. Karen completed her Master’s of Arts Degree from EMU in Educational Leadership (2005) as well as a Bachelor in Science in Elementary Education (1996). She has participated in other professional organizations, such as, MCPA (Michigan College Personnel Association), UCEA (University Continuing Education Association), and MICADA (Michigan Academic Advising Association). Do you know graduate student who is actively working, involved in research and/or making major contributions in the field of Adult and Continuing Education? How about an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service and contributions in either business, industry, civic or political affairs, arts or sciences, community, or in the Adult Education professions? Or someone that has dedicated 10 or more years of valuable service to the field of Adult and Continuing Education? If you answered yes to one of those questions, considering nominating that person for a MAACE Scholarship or Award. Click here for additional information.
